VOTING

HOW TO VOTE

In order to vote, you must be:
  • 18 years or older;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • living in BC for more than 6 months before November 19th;
  • living in Victoria for at least 30 days before the 19th;
  • not otherwise disqualified by law. This last point mostly applies to you if you are currently in prison or otherwise at odds with the law.
You also need to be registered to vote. If you voted in the provincial election or any previous municipal elections, you're probably already registered. If you've never voted before you're probably not registered, but don't worry! If you're not sure, just show up at any voting location on election day with a couple of pieces of ID and proof that you live here (like a utility bill with your name on it) and register on the spot. Any piece of government ID (driver's license, SIN card, Care Card, etc.) will work, and registration takes about 5 or 10 minutes.

You CAN vote if you have no fixed address, you just have to show up and register on the spot (with ID) and sign a document saying that you've lived in the city for the required amount of time.

You can also vote without any ID or proof of identity, but you have to sign two documents - the first is a declaration of residency in Victoria, the second is a declaration of identity. This process is easier if you have some official mail or some other proof of address.

You can also vote if you own property in the city by registering as a non-resident property elector. Details about this along with the forms and such can be found HERE
